The Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia (JEP) – MACRO CASE 04: 11 SEPTEMBER 2018

Macro Case 04 opened in September 2018 to investigate crimes concentrated in the Urabá region between 1986 and 2016. 

  • On 11 September 2018, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia (JEP) opened a case to identify crimes committed in the Urabá region, including homicide, forced disappearance, torture, sexual violence, deprivations of liberty, and civilian property damage.
  • On 4 October 2022, JEP reported that 8 of the 10 defendants charged under this case accepted responsibility for their crimes. These defendants participated in a Public Hearing on the matter in June 2023. The other two Defendants, Colonels Jorge Alberto Amor Páez and David Herley Guzmán Ramírez, if found guilty, may face up to 20 years in prison for their crimes.
  • As of 31 March 2023, more than 45,000 victims have been accredited by the case, and the case has been proceeding with primarily restorative, participatory, and dialogic methods of reconciliation.
