The Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia (JEP) – MACRO CASE 05: 16 NOVEMBER 2018

Macro Case 05 opened in November 2018 to investigate crimes concentrated in the Northern Cauca and Southern Cauca Valley regions between 1993 and 2016. 

  • On 16th November 2018, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia (JEP) opened a case to prioritize the various crimes committed Northern Cauca and Southern Cauca Valley regions, including displacement, kidnapping, confinement, forced disappearance, torture, and sexual violence. 
  • More than 200,000 victims and 138 organizations have been accredited under this macro case, with many coming from predominantly Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities.
  • On 8 March 2023, JEP issued its first indictments in the macro case against 10 regional commanders of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
  • On 17 July 2023, the River Cauca was designated as a victim of the conflict, the first instance of a natural resource being recognized as part of JEP’s transitional justice court.
